Spicy Star Fruit

Starfruit also known as Carambola is a great source of antioxidants and vitamins.It is native of asian countries but is found easily anywhere and in almost all grocery stores.
It makes excellent side dish with any indian meal when prepared Hot and spicy along with Jalepenos and indian spices.



























 















Ingriedients:
Starfruit(below is the picture ) 2



Jalepenos (deseeded and cut lenghtwise) 4
EVOO 3 tb spoon
Cumin seeds 1 tb spoon
Fennel seeds 1Tb spoon
Fennel seeds powered 2 tb spoon
Asefoetida 2-3 pinch
Yellow mustard seeds(gives pickle like taste) 1 t spoon
Onion seeds(kalunji) 1 t spoon
Red Chilly Powder 1/2 tb spoon
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tb spoon
Coriander Powder 2 tb spoon
     Dry Mango Powder 1 tb spoon
     Salt to taste


Method:

  • Cut starfruit and jalepenos lenghtwise and wash them













  • In a medium heated pan add EVOO and sprinkle cumin seeds, fennel seeds and yellow mustard seeds and asefoetida. let them crackle.
  • Add onion seeds(kalunji).This is easily avialable in any indian grocery store.
  • Add in the starfuit and jalepenos.Stir them to get mixed in with the spices.
  • Add Salt and Turmeric. Stir and cover the pan.Let it cook for 15 mins or until its little tender but not mushy.
  • Add chilly powder,coriander powder and stir. Let it cook for another 5 mins.
  • Add dry mango powder and powdered fennel seeds, stir and turn off the heat.
  • Spicy Starfruit is ready to relish with chapati/roti or parantha.
